Woman Sees a Sign on Road About These Kittens, She Stops Her Car and Rushes to Their Rescue

When Hannah Shaw, a Kitten Rescuer, was on her way from Connecticut to Washington DC, she came across a sign on the side of a country road.

“When I passed the sign, I slammed on the brakes and hit reverse,” Hannah said.

Hannah took a detour onto a country road for a few miles when she spotted a large sign outside a house that said “Free Kittens”.

She parked her car and walked up to the door to ask about the kittens and see how she could help.

“The woman explains that they have a couple of pet cats and they haven’t been able to afford to get them sterilized,” Hannah (@kittenxlady) said.

After learning about the couple’s situation, Hannah offered for her rescue group, Orphan Kitten Club, to pay for the kitties’ spay/neuter surgery and to put an end to the breeding cycle. The woman was so grateful that she was stunned.

“The couple clearly cared about the cats, but they were in over their heads,” Hannah said. “It’s usually a lack of education or a lack of resources or both… You solve those issues by providing education and resources.”

“Now the couple is going to be able to sterilize their cats, they are going to end the cycle of reproduction, and they can throw away that ‘Free Kittens’ sign,” Hannah added.

“When it comes to ‘Free Kittens’, the problem isn’t that there’s no money being exchanged, the problem is that there’s no protocol in place for their adoption,” Hannah added.

“If someone’s giving away free kittens who haven’t seen a vet, they’re not preparing them for success.”

The three kittens were about seven weeks old and 1.7-1.8 pounds when they arrived at their foster home. They were named Pee Wee, Marge, and Dottie!

The trio was thriving in foster care, eating like champs and purring up a storm whenever they spent lap time with their foster mom.

“The boy, Pee Wee is the tiniest and friendliest. Large Marge is the biggest and, while skeptical, has decided that she does like belly rubs. Dottie has a white dot on the back of her head.”

Three weeks after Hannah found the kittens, they were ready for their next chapter in life.

Dottie and PeeWee went to their new home together, and Marge found her forever family and a new feline sister.
