Where Was ‘The Hunting Wives’ Filmed? All About the Real-Life Locations

While The Hunting Wives is set in East Texas, the hit series wasn’t filmed in the Lone Star State.

The new Netflix thriller, which is based on the novel by May Cobb, follows Sophie O’Neil (Brittany Snow) as she uproots her life from the East Coast to the South with her husband, Graham (Evan Jonigkeit). Along the way, she befriends the head of the Hunting Wives friend group, Margo Bank (Malin Akerman), and her husband, Graham’s boss, Jed (Dermot Mulroney).

In The Hunting Wives, the characters’ lives revolve around their small Texas social circle. In reality, the series was filmed almost entirely in North Carolina. The town of Mooresville, which is located 30 miles north of Charlotte, was transformed into the fictional Texas city of Maple Brook.

Although the town in The Hunting Wives is fictional, the show features real-life spots that were either adapted for the show or stayed remarkably true to their normal state for filming.

So, where was The Hunting Wives filmed? Here’s everything to know about the show’s real-life locations.

Where was The Hunting Wives filmed?

Although The Hunting Wives centers around a group of friends in Texas, the series was filmed at a variety of locations around the Charlotte area in North Carolina.

The quaint town of Mooresville, N.C., which is located 30 miles north of Charlotte, turned into Maple Brook, per Queen City News. Main Street lies in the heart of Mooresville and had several of its stores and restaurants take on different names for The Hunting Wives.

For instance, the series features a store named the Cavendish Boot Barn, but in reality, the property is a men’s clothing store named Hampton’s of Mooresville, per Atlas of Wonders. Meanwhile, Pie in the Sky Pizza, which is also on Main Street, is a real restaurant that was shown with its real name. A second restaurant that remained the same was What-A-Burger.

In addition to primarily using downtown Mooresville, the show also featured locations from other areas near Charlotte. A main area where the group of women hang out is the Azalea Retreat on Lake Norman in Sherrills Ford, about 40 miles north of Charlotte. The luxurious log cabin retreat is 6,500 square feet with six bedrooms and sleeps up to 22 guests on a two-acre lot overlooking the lake.

Another location the women frequent is the outdoor trails near Maple Brook, which were actually filmed at Falcon Trail Trailhead located in Richfield, about 45 miles northeast of Charlotte.

When the Hunting Wives weren’t spending time outdoors, they enjoyed frequenting eateries and wineries — including the real-life Dilworth Tasting Room in Charlotte, per the Charlotte Observer. Other areas that were shown in the show include the Stone Haven Estate in Concord, the Park Church in Charlotte, the Mooresville Public Library and the Chapter 6 cocktail bar in Charlotte, among others.

Is the town of Maple Brook real?

In The Hunting Wives book, the story is set in the picturesque town of Mapleton in Kirk County, Texas. Meanwhile, the 2025 Netflix series adapted the book and renamed the town Maple Brook. Both Mapleton and Maple Brook are fictional towns.

However, Cobb later explained that she wrote Mapleton based on her hometown, Longview, Texas.

“I still don’t really know why I did that because everyone knows this is Longview,” Cobb told the Marshall News Messenger in July 2025.

Is Coyote Joe’s real?

One of the more memorable venues in The Hunting Wives is Coyote Joe’s. Unlike the town of Maple Brook, Coyote Joe’s is a real-life honky-tonk bar beloved by Charlotte locals.

When the women venture to the dive, they enjoy line dancing, drinking with friends and chatting with other locals. In reality, Coyote Joe’s offers patrons similar activities and hosts several live concerts, dance lessons and events.

What have the stars said about filming in North Carolina?

Several stars from The Hunting Wives have raved about working in Charlotte — and even enjoyed some of the same activities as their characters.

Snow told PEOPLE in July 2025 that she and Akerman would mellow out after filming by going out to a restaurant in Charlotte.

“We would get these huge turkey sandwiches that were the size of our faces, and we would each have a turkey sandwich and a margarita and just laugh and debrief about the day,” Snow told PEOPLE. “A couple of times we even took our lines to try to memorize them while we were eating, which didn’t always work out.”

Meanwhile, Chrissy Metz, who plays Starr, told Queen City News that she “honestly loved Charlotte.”

“The food was great, and the people were so warm, and there was stuff to do, but also it didn’t feel so overwhelmingly big,” she continued. “It was just great … I hadn’t been to Charlotte and I certainly hadn’t worked there, so it was great and all the girls and I, we had such a great time.”

Both Metz and Akerman also revealed that they often frequented Coyote Joe’s as a cast.

“There happens to be this incredible honky-tonk bar called Coyote Joe’s,” Akerman said on Live with Kelly and Mark in July 2025. “We actually shot a scene there as well for the show, but once we discovered it, we were there every single weekend, going, you know, two-stepping with all the cowboys. It was a blast.”
