Looking for a way to celebrate our feline friends in December? Here are some fun December 2019 cat events.

Dec. 7-8: Snow Cats Convention

Check out all the cool kitties at the Snow Cats Convention in Denver.

All the cool kitties love snow. That’s why they flock to Denver, Colorado, in December for the Snow Cats Convention, which brought in more than 5,000 cat lovers last year. Check out feline fun, live music, film, art, workshops and lots of vendors. The event is filled with presentations, meet and greets, workshops and unique activities for cat lovers, plus adoptions will take center stage. Event location is at the Cable Centerin Denver. Dec. 20: Cats, the Movie

Cats hits theaters this month.

If you never got a chance to see the musical Cats on Broadway or performed at your city theater, you can finally see it at your local movie theater. Response to the movie trailer has been burning up the internet, with plenty of comments about the use of “digital fur technology.” Stars like Taylor Swift, Jennifer Hudson, Ian McKellen, Judi Dench, Rebel Wilson and James Corden (to name just a few) give it ameowzing buzz power. 

Through December 31st: Solar Cat

If you’re interested in renewable energy and just happen to be a cat lover, check out Solar Cat: The Cutest Solar Panel Ever Made. Located in the Upper Level, Tech Gallery at New York Hall of Science,  the exhibit centers around a giant, 140-watt cat-shaped solar panel mounted to the window. The energy harvested by the panel powers an adjacent interactive pedestal featuring fun facts and diagrams about how solar panels work. You can flip a switch to send Solar Cat’s harvested energy to power up a model house. You can also charge your cell phone using one of two built-in USB ports powered by Solar Cat. This fun exhibit educates visitors about solar technology and also demonstrates how creativity and design can push technology to be more accessible. Get more information here.

Through Jan. 2, 2020: Blue Buffalo Home 4 the Holidays

The Home 4 the Holidays campaingn helps place orphaned pets into forever homes.

Start the holiday season off by joining in this annual, three-month pet-adoption campaign dedicated to placing orphaned pets into happy, loving homes. Started by Helen Woodward Animal Center, working along with thousands of partner animal organizations from around the world, this program educates the public about the importance of choosing pet adoption over supporting puppy mills and backyard breeders. Through this collective group of more than 4,000 pet adoption agencies, facilities and rescue groups, this campaign has become the largest pet adoption campaign on record, saving more than 15 million pets since its inception in 1999. The 2019 pet adoption drive began Oct. 1 and runs through January 2, 2020. For more information, visit www.home4theholidays.org.

Through Jan. 1, 2020: SF SPCA Holiday Windows

Check out the cute kitties available for adoption at Macy’s Union Square in San Francisco.

It’s the 33rdAnnual Holiday Windows where you can check out the SF SPCA’s adoption center at Macy’s Union Square in San Francisco. Those cute kitties in the window are looking for their forever homes, and every year SF SPCA finds hundreds of pets new homes with this wonderful program. Learn more at sfspca.org/holiday.
