Joel Kim Booster Reveals Wedding Date, Location and Celeb Groomsmen (Exclusive)

Joel Kim Booster and John-Michael Sudsina’s wedding date is approaching — fast!

Back in March, Booster, 37, said on the Grindr Presents: Who’s the A——? with Katya podcast that his wedding would likely be “one or two years” away due to work responsibilities. However, the actor, writer and producer gave a new wedding timeline to PEOPLE at the 85th Annual Peabody Awards on June 1, where he not only revealed the date of his big day, but also its location and a few of his celebrity groomsmen. 

The Love Hotel host shared that his wedding is “New Year’s, this year” in “San Francisco.” The location is significant to both grooms because it’s where they had their first date.

“It’s where I fell in love,” Booster tells PEOPLE. “It’s just enough of a destination that it filters out to people that don’t want to be there, but not too big a barrier that it’s hard to get to.”

Booster joked in May on The Jennifer Hudson Show that cutting down his wedding guest list was “intense” and comparable to The Hunger Games, but he tells PEOPLE that it was an easy choice to have his former Fire Island costars be his “groomsmen.”

“Matt Rogers and Bowen Yang are both in my wedding party,” he says.

The pair will even give a joint toast at the reception.

“They will be giving a joint toast, actually. And I set them off on that project and I have no idea what it will be, but I’m sure it will be insane either way,” Booster notes.

Booster announced his engagement on Aug. 31, 2024, by sharing a photo on X of himself proposing to Sudsina with the sweet caption: “Vacation boyfriend —-> Vacation husband. Try to be normal about this.” That same day, he shared more loving images from their vacation in Jeju Island, South Korea, on Instagram, writing, “Very much in love. Very happy. No matter where I am, he’s my home.”

Booster says that Korea is “going to be a tough act to follow, for sure” when it comes to their honeymoon. They “haven’t figured out” their honeymoon destination yet, but know they want to travel somewhere new.

“We both really love traveling, but we want to go to some place that neither of us have been before,” Booster says. “And that’s actually hard because we’ve both traveled so much.”

He continues, “We’re thinking maybe either Portugal or Spain. We’ve been all over Spain, but neither of us have done Madrid, wildly, so we are thinking about that. But yeah, with my schedule and his schedule, it’s going to be probably a little while before we have the honeymoon.”
