The troubling pet food recalls just keep coming.
According to WLOX, Blue Ridge Beef of Eatonton, Georgia, recalled one of its products, “Kitten Grind,” after salmonella found in the product may’ve killed a kitten.
After customers filed complaints with the Food and Drug Administration regarding two kitten deaths, the company recalled the raw pet food. One of the kittens did indeed die from salmonella septicemia (blood poisoning caused by the bacteria), the FDA confirmed after testing one batch of the product.
Infection symptoms may include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea (or bloody diarrhea), abdominal cramping, fever and death. Humans handling affected food or cleaning pet waste are also at risk.
The bacteria listeria was also discovered in lot number GA1102, which includes 20 cases (300 tubes) of the product. Texas, Georgia, South Carolina, Tennessee and North Carolina may be affected by the recall.
Pet owners can look out for contaminated products by checking if the label has “lot# GA1102” stamped on the package’s metal clips. The manufacturing date is Nov. 02, 2017. If they discover that label or date, customers should absolutely not give it to their pets and either throw it out or return it to the store where they purchased the product for a full refund.
