Sonja Morgan Auctioning Famous NYC Townhouse

News

Sonja Morgan is bidding farewell to her famous New York City townhouse.

The Real Housewives of New York City alum, 60, is preparing to auction her well-known Upper East Side townhouse, according to the Modling group listing and Concierge Auctions.

The home was featured prominently on RHONY, where viewers saw the socialite giving orders to her interns and developing toaster oven recipes.

The 4,650-square-foot house features four bedrooms, five full bathrooms, two half bathrooms, lovely outdoor seating in a 35-foot garden — as well as a secret elevator.

The auction will run from May 15 to May 29. The five-story home is currently listed at $7.5 million, and starting bids are expected to come in between $1.75 million to $3.75 million.

“Set within the embrace of one of New York’s most iconic tree-lined blocks, this home is more than just a residence; it’s the pinnacle of refined living,” Paulina Kimbell, VP of Business Development at Concierge Auction, says in a statement to PEOPLE.

“It offers a rare combination of top-notch setting and elegant European feel, culminating in a winning combination. Each of the five floors is a testament to the artistry of design, having been graced by furnishings curated by internationally-renowned figures,” continues Kimbell. “In a city where luxury abounds, this property stands out as a beacon of elevated elegance, offering a lifestyle that is as unique as it is extraordinary.”

“This townhouse has been our cherished home for decades,” Morgan said in a statement, reports the New York Post. “In addition to raising my daughter here, we entertained heads of state, royalty, luminaries and Fortune 500 CEOs.”

“Many memories were made over the years, including hosting my daughter’s friends from boarding school and university, and so many noteworthy moments were filmed by NBC for Bravo and Peacock TV,” added Morgan. “Now, as an empty nester, I am ready to share this turnkey, easy-to-manage jewel over to someone new to enjoy as we did.”

Morgan listed it for sale and rented it throughout the years before deciding to auction the home. She first listed it for $9.95 million in 2013 amid her divorce with J.P. Morgan heir John Morgan

Five years later, she revealed on RHONY that she rented out the property for $32,000 per month, according to Bravo. That same year, she moved into a new abode on the other side of Central Park and found herself in an apartment that overlooked Manhattan’s Columbus Circle.

Then, in 2022, she re-listed the Upper East Side townhouse for $8.75 million.

More recently, Morgan revealed in November 2023 at BravoCon that her home was vacant and she was unsure what to do with the property.

“When it’s rented, I take it off the market. So I have a wonderful family that just left a few days ago, so now I feel broke. When I rent it, I feel homeless,” she explained during the Real Housewives Ultimate Girls Trip: RHONY Legacy panel. “Dorinda [Medley] and I had a really good talk. She said just auction it and move on.”

Now, more than a decade later, Morgan has put the home up for sale once more, with the expectation that it will be taken off the market after the auction.
