Jagger Eaton Says Nyjah Huston Is Like a ‘Big Brother’ After Skaters Medal in Paris

Nyjah Huston and Jagger Eaton go way back.

Eaton, 23, and Huston, 29, had been skating together for years before taking home the silver and bronze medals, respectively, in the men’s street skateboarding event at the Paris Olympics on Monday, July 29.

After their wins, both skaters sweetly praised one another while speaking to reporters.

“My relationship with Nyjah is really like my big brother,” Eaton shared after his medal win at Place de la Concorde in Paris.

In fact, the Arizona native credits Huston with inspiring him as a skater. “I would really say that I dedicate a lot of my tricks, a lot of my competitive drive, to him,” said Eaton, who came in second place behind Huston in the 2018 ESPN X Games.

“In my eyes, he was the first skateboarder who really embraced competition, and to be out there with him, you know, it’s a testament to what he’s done for the sport.”

Huston, whose bronze on Monday was his first Olympic medal, called Eaton “such an insane competitor” while speaking to reporters in Paris.

“You can just tell the way that he handles the pressure out there and carries himself,” Huston continued.

“He’s really meant to be doing what he’s doing out there,” the skater said of Eaton, noting that Monday’s silver in Paris is his second Olympic medal (Eaton won bronze in the same event in Tokyo in 2021). “This is his second medal now, so that just goes to show how how good of a skateboarder he is and how consistent he is.”

Huston shared that he and Eaton have been spending downtime together in Paris at their second Olympic Games together.

“We’re homies, you know, we’ve been kicking it on this trip, we kicked it a bunch at the last one in Tokyo, we had some sessions back home at my park and some other places before coming out here.”

Beyond their success while representing Team USA, Huston said his sweet relationship with Eaton is emblematic of the tight-knit skateboarding community’s support for one another.

“We all love skating with each other,” the Davis, Calif. native shared. “There are very few guys out there that I’m not homies with, and that’s what skateboarding is all about, man. We all love feeding off each other’s energy.”

While every skater is “obviously out there trying to do our best” while competing against each other, Huston, who described skating as “the best thing on earth,” said, “At the end of the day, skateboarding is all about having fun.”
