Kate Middleton’s Carol Concert Has Snacks, Royal Family Member Reveals

News

Kate Middleton‘s Together at Christmas concert has become a staple on the royals’ annual calendar — and one family member says that it’s complete with treats!

On Nov. 27, Hello! reported that Sophie Winkelman made the revelation at the Fayre of St James’s Christmas charity event in London the day prior. Sophie, 44, is married to Lord Frederick Windsor, the son of Queen Elizabeth‘s first cousin, Prince Michael of Kent, and has attended Princess Kate’s carol concert at Westminster Abbey for the last two years.

According to the outlet, Sophie alluded to a family gathering after the service when discussing what she looked forward to most about the event.

“Beautiful music and beautiful readings. And Hors d’Oeuvres,” she said.

While refreshments aren’t passed around the ancient abbey, it’s news to royal watchers that there might be a celebration after. The Princess of Wales, 42, organized the first Together at Christmas concert in December 2021 to a tribute to the individuals and organizations who went the extra mile for their communities during the COVID-19 pandemic, and the holiday concert has continued as a tradition since.

The carol service commemorates the best of what’s being done at the community level across the U.K., and has featured a different theme each year.

Though Sophie and Frederick are not working royals like his cousin, Prince William, and instead pursue private careers (he’s a financial analyst, and she’s an actress!), she still backs several charities as a royal patron or ambassador.

Sophie spoke about her own charitable commitments at the Fayre of St James’s event, mentioning, “I hope I can give back, I’m trying to help all my wonderful charities.” The Wonka star supports Children’s Surgery Foundation, Cure International and School-Home Support, and has hit the streets like Prince William to sell copies of The Big Issue to benefit those experiencing homelessness.

Sophie and Frederick, 45, stepped out for a good cause at the Fayre of St James’s, as the concert fundraises for the Quintessentially Foundation. The organization (founded by Queen Camilla‘s nephew, Ben Elliot!) is dedicated to ending child poverty and the limitations it places on the futures of youth through its flagship Firefly Project.

The couple might soon have another charitable concert on the calendar, as Kensington Palace previously announced that Princess Kate will hold her fourth iteration of the Together at Christmas concert at Westminster Abbey on Friday, Dec. 6.

Sophie and Frederick attended the event for the first time in 2022, and brought along their daughters, Maud, 11, and Isabella, 8, in 2023. The girls were in good company with other children including the Prince and Princess of Wales’ kids, Prince George, 11, Princess Charlotte, 9, and Prince Louis, 6, who memorably made his debut at his mom’s concert!

This year has looked different for Prince William and Princess Kate, as the Princess of Wales announced in March that she was undergoing treatment for cancer and reduced her royal duties to focus on her health. Princess Kate shared in September that she completed chemotherapy and has attended several events since, while planning for her Together at Christmas special.

Kensington Palace confirmed on Nov. 12 that the festive event would be held on Dec. 6, with 1,600 people invited to the royal event. Princess Kate’s office said she wanted to recognize those who support others in need  — individuals who have “above all else, shown that love is the greatest gift we can receive.”
