Blue Ridge Beef is recalling approximately 5,700 lbs. of their Natural Mix due to confirmed Salmonella contamination. Why was it recalled?

The product tested positive for Salmonella contamination following a sample collected by the North Carolina Department of Agriculture on January 8, 2025. The contamination poses a health risk to both pets and humans.

Salmonella can cause nausea, vomiting, diarrhea (sometimes bloody), abdominal cramping, and fever. Rarely, it can lead to more serious conditions such as infections in the arteries, endocarditis, arthritis, muscle pain, eye irritation, and urinary tract symptoms. Anyone who has handled the recalled product and exhibits these symptoms should seek medical attention.

For pets:

Pets consuming the contaminated product may experience lethargy, diarrhea (often bloody), fever, vomiting, decreased appetite, and abdominal pain. Infected pets can also be carriers of the bacteria, potentially infecting other animals or humans. If your pet has consumed the recalled product and shows any symptoms, contact your veterinarian immediately.

What should you do?

If you have purchased the affected product, return it to the place of purchase or securely dispose of it in a way that children, pets, and wildlife cannot access it. Do not sell, donate, or feed the recalled product to pets or other animals.

After handling the recalled product or any surfaces that may have come into contact with it, wash and sanitize your hands, pet food bowls, cups, and storage containers.
