Noah Wyle is delighted to have a strong support group that just so happens to include a few famous faces.
While discussing his role as Dr. Michael “Robby” Robinavitch in The Pitt, the actor, 53, who also serves as an executive producer and writer for the hit medical drama, said that it wasn’t just one flattering remark he’s gotten for the role that matters to him the most, but rather the people from whom the praise is coming.
“I have this little support group of actor friends, we’re the eating club called the Character Actor Dining Society — the CADs, we refer to ourselves,” Wyle told TV Guide in an interview published on Friday, April 11.

“It’s made up of a group of actors who I hold in the highest regard and esteem, and I’m honored to be among them when we’re together,” he continued, noting that members of the group include Alfred Molina, Bryan Cranston, Steven Weber, Laurence Fishburne, LeVar Burton, Eric McCormack, Jason Alexander and Kevin Pollak.
“And when they weighed in and were complimentary, I felt that those meant the most to me, because I really do hold them in such higher regard,” said Wyle.

While Wyle did not disclose what his fellow actors have told him about his work on the series, his costar Fiona Dourif, who plays second-year resident Dr. Cassie McKay, recently told PEOPLE that it is a lot like “watching a champion ice skater.”
“It was so deeply hard and interesting to watch Noah Wyle do it, who’s just like effortless. It was like watching a champion ice skater twirl around on the ice,” said Dourif.
“We were just like, ‘How is he doing that?’ Especially when you add in the choreography with props and the surgeries, it was not easy,” she added.

After having his breakout role as Dr. John Carter on ER, returning to a medical drama wasn’t always Wyle’s first choice. However, he described it as “an opportunity to shine the spotlight back on the first responders who really need it right now,” in an interview with PEOPLE last month.
He added that the show offers “a vehicle for people to go on a journey and get a new look at what hospitals are like and what healthcare is like these days.”
Season 1 of The Pitt is available to stream on Max.
